Does anyone know an introductory read for print designers who are going to design a web site? I was contacted by a designer to do the technical stuff and she asked me if I knew any literature on the do's and dont's of web design. Can anyone recommend a document that explains the difficulties and focuses on people who know print design but don't have any experience in web design? |

It's not only a matter of adapting to the difference between print and design for the web; the design has to be search engine friendly, and that's something a lot of basic web design books don't get into. If you do a search at Amazon for web design seo (using the three words) you'll find a few that cover basics as well as sites being "findable" which would be a starting point. then, when you look at the books, Amazon makes further related suggestions, which makes it very easy to comparison shop. I do a lot of shopping and looking through books at Amazon, and always try to read excerpts either there or using Google Books, and read the all reviews - and also look at the author's site if they have one, to get an idea of their style and readability. |

Hello Friends........ 1.Your web site should be easy to read:The most important rule in web design is that your web site should be easy to read. 2.Your web site should be easy to navigate:All of your hyperlinks should be clear to your visitors. Graphic images, such as buttons or tabs, should be clearly labeled and easy to read. 3.Your web site should be easy to find:Web sites are promoted online via search engines, directories, award sites, banner advertising, electronic magazines (e-zines) and links from other web sites 4.Your web page layout and design should be consistent throughout the site:Just as in any document formatted on a word processor or as in any brochure, newsletter, or newspaper formatted in a desktop publishing program, all graphic images and elements, typefaces, headings, and footers should remain consistent throughout your web site. 5.Your web site should be quick to download:Studies have indicated that visitors will quickly lose interest in your web site if the majority of a page does not download within 15 seconds. (Artists' pages should have a warning at the top of their pages.) Even web sites that are marketed to high-end users need to consider download times. Sometimes, getting to web site such as Microsoft or Sun Microsystems is so difficult and time consuming that visitors will often try to access the sites during non-working hours from their homes Thanks |
