What are you using the email addresses for? In most cases, I think you are better off building your own list. You might want to look into co-registration. That is one of the best ways to build a list cheaply. Plus, then you have an asset to trade for joint ventures.

I agree with Jamison. I've learned that when you buy e-mail addresses, you have no more guarantee that some will sign up to your program than if you put your site on a traffic exchange. The best way to go is marketing for qualified leads. Purchased e-mail leads may work, then again they may not, but if you have a person that is truly interested in what you are doing, rather than someone who just saw your site, you have a better success rate.

I think that buying e-mail lists is not the best way to advertise. I don't like getting spam and believe most people would agree. Although some might be truly interested most will be irritated in receiving an e-mail that they don't want. I have some companies on my blocked list that I know are reputable companies, but I don't buy their products and got e-mails from them. It drove me up the wall. I think creating your own list is the way to go and always give people the option to opt out.

Generating your own list is always the way to go. You know the people that opt in are actually interested in your offer and information.
I admit I purchased solo ads just recently and it is very targeted. But, I know through research that for longevity in sales and a good customer base comes through your own list.
I'm working on that now and have 60 on my list so far.

With the new CAN-SPAM regulations, you could get sued for spamming emails...

Sure Brandy,

The CAN-SPAM Act is a U.S. law that regulates commercial email.

According to CAN-SPAM, all email messages must offer a method for the recipient to opt-out (unsubscribe) and must contain the sender's valid physical postal address.

Thanks so much Fendi!!
Physical postal address? I send mine through an autoresponder. You do mean their address correct. I know my e-mails have that(the address to the autoresponder).
I only send e-mails to people that have requested information and all e-mails have an opt-out. I would not have it any other way.
