If I see a thread started by someone who is asking exactly what I would like to ask, shall I go ahead and open a thread of my own or I can reply in his? I ask because I want to avoid a duplicate question, however sometimes new threads receive more attention than the old threads do.

If they're asking exactly what you would like to ask why would you need to open a new thread, since they've already asked what you would like to ask.

April, thank you for asking! If you'd like to ask further questions or add to the discussion, then please do so in the same thread. Duplicate threads are usually a nuisance, to be honest, and as soon as someone adds to the 'old' thread, it's 'new' again.
