Here is my advice on what you should be doing. And I am sure it has been said here but oh well. Stop reading NOW, take the information you already have, pick one, and roll with. Don't worry about not know ALL the details because you will never know all the details. You just have to start it and learn as you go. Start RIGHT NOW and don't look back.

You sound like I did when I first started out looking to make money on the Internet. I remember the feeling well! I didn't know how to get started building a site or even what I would build it about.

If you build it, they will NOT come... Unless you approach it and build it the right way.

I used a great product called Site Build It!, by SiteSell.com, to guide me step by step through the research, creation, monetization, and traffic building for my first Website. They have a complete guide in both written form and video form that takes you from the first step to the last. All the tools you need to research and create the site are provided. (It even helped me decide what to write about.)

Whatever you do, just don't put a site up blindly. It's imperative that you take the time to do the first important steps of researching a site concept, related keywords, and monetization models for your online business. I can't stress enough how important that is. If you don't research and plan, you'll pay for it later, when you realize you've gone in the wrong direction.

There's great value in taking time to approach any business with research and a plan of action. This is true for an online business, just as it is with an offline business.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide to do online!

WOW, all this is great advice.
I too spent about a year feeling like a kid in a really big lolly-shop - completely overwhelmed.
One of the worst distractions I found was my email, so when I want to make progress, I simply don't check it - that way I cant be tempted to leap from offer to crazy offer.
However, I made the most progress when I found these free video tutorials (no optin required!) They explained the whole internet marketing process in a simple way that really allowed me to create my own mind map of where I was headed.
Once you have direction, all it needs is action.
Here's where to get access to those free videos.

My advice to anyone starting out is to find a hot product and start building a list straight away. I'm sure you have heard "the moneys in the list" and this is totally true.

The reason list building is so important is the fact you have a customer at the click of a button, now if you have 25,000 people on your list you now have a ton of target traffic on demand. This is how you make it big online it's all about the traffic!

That's what I do especially when I use any type of pay per click for traffic. If you are going to pay for traffic it's better to get a lead not just a visitor. The best part is you also get to follow them up automatically.

Remember making one sale is simply not good enough!! Get there name and email first and then redirect them to your web site or offer, this way you now have a new lead and a customer for life.

I know there are many different way to get started but I find that there are holes in the information and I still don’t know how to get started... It’s been an on going process for over a year now and I feel I am spinning my wheels on e-book after e-book, report after report and program after program. Maybe I am putting too much into it and can’t see the forest for the trees.... I need a solid way to put things together to even get a site live so that I can at lest say I made it to first step. I need help!
I'm new also and I have been researching, trying and reviewing, and implementing for a year. The next step is to put something into action. Even if you make a mistake, shake if off, stand up and perform another action. It is a learning curve, which I'm experiencing as I speak. But to become an expert you have to go thru bumbs and scratches, they will heal. Eventually, you will minimize the bumbs and scratches and shine thru and glow. Good luck and never give up.......

You must start with something you feel passionate about. The Internet can be overwhelming, however, perhaps it's time to narrow down your choices and to focus. Education and training is always helpful and may save you a lot of time, money and energy in the long run. A Mind Is Indeed A Terrible Thing To Waste. Hope that helps.

You need a way to distribute the value you want to offer. Do you know how to put a website up and running? If not, you don't need any ebook to teach you how. Simply search Google on how to install a wordpress blog or create any other type of site.

You need a way to attract people and convince them of the value you're offering. Most IM products will focus on this will neglecting other important parts.

You're failing because you're looking for an opportunity. You need to start thinking about it from a businessmen perspective, not an opportunity seeker. The only problem you're trying to solve is "how do I make money" while you should be thinking from the perspective of your potential customer. What problems do they have and how can you solve them?
Wow! That last paragraph is a very profound. I never thought of it that way. Of course everyone wants to make money, but how about the mind set of what you can offer to someone else. I'm only 3 weeks into this. And the advise in this forum will keep me from going a year without doing something.

Thanks everyone!
