Default BlogSpot posting

I have been article marketing for a major retailer. Their goal is to drive awareness of their brand. Recently they decided to start a blog. They have set it up at blogspot.

Does it make sense to start a blog at blogspot as opposed to their own developed website...ie does Google like blogspot so much that they are likely to rank higher in the search engines with blogspot posts as opposed to their own web posts?

Other thoughts?
Thanks!

I've heard differing views on this. I wouldn't necessarily discourage them from doing this, and nothing wrong with linking the two sites together so that the blog gets some inlinks.

No, if they are a major retailer, it does them no good to go with Blogspot. It makes them look bad. It's like putting your flagship store in a terrible neighborhood.

The only "big" groups that make sense to do that are public good projects like free software and the like.

Leave Blogspot for your affiliates to use to promote you, not for your primary.

Blogspot/Blogger is great for supporting sites and niche blogging but it isn't good for corporate presence. It should be on a subfolder or subdomain of their domain, preferably using WordPress or Joomla for content management.

I have just asked my Business Partner who is something of an expert in this area and he agrees. Good luck
