When a website is new, it is hard to get regular visitors. What techniques did you use to introduce your site to other people? How about search engines? Do you advertise it also to them? How is the process? Do you need to pay anything?

One way is make it search engine friendly. Check this forum. There were tips on how to do offline and online search egine optimizations. The basic requirement though ist that your site must have a good content.

You can start by using Google PPC.

If you add enough quality and unique content to your website then you can quickly get decent traffic for a new site. (especially from MSN)

The obvious first solution would be to tell people you know: friends, family, coworkers, classmates, online friends, drinking buddies, whoever you know.



You "tell" a search engine about your website by putting keywords into your web page so they they can "find" you. This is search engine optimization. For example, say you run a website about cats. Then you need to write rich keywords on your website (as many pages as you can) about anything related to cats, like cat food, anatomy of cats, cat toys, etc. If you are targeting a specific niche, say cat disease, then you need to narrow your keywords that are relevant in that subject.

I'm not so sure about free search engine submissions helping much but free directory submissions definitely help as do article submissions.
