Multi level marketing gets a resoundingly bad rap in the business world. Normally, detractors point to an inherently flawed business structure that saturates the market to the point that everyone involved in the project fails. They also often point to the fact that many multi level marketing organizations are nothing more than glorified pyramid schemes operating under a different name. But more and more, people are leveling other kinds of charges at multi level marketing groups; questioning the way they prey upon people emotionally and reel them in. It all begs the question, are multi level marketing groups real businesses or are they cults? The answer might surprise you. First things first: there are some legitimate multi level marketing business opportunities out there at allow you to make some money without having to buy into a bunch of mumbo jumbo about the company. These businesses sell real, quality products are reasonable price and value the sales over the recruitment. They also give you adequate support without making unreasonable demands of you. These are businesses like any other and can’t be tarred with the cult brush. But then there are the other kinds of multi level marketing programs – the ones that have a cult like hold on their “reps.” These companies are fairly easy to spot. Look at the way the pitch is made. First, the pitch usually begins with some kind of story about the company founder – a down on their luck man or woman who took the last few dollars they had in their bank account and decided to take a chance. This chance naturally paid off with wealth beyond their wildest dreams; a life of private jets, vacations homes, sports cars and exotic vacations, all while barely working at all. Then, the pitch goes on to suggest all of this could be yours, too. You, too, could have fabulous wealth while working less than an hour a day, if you’re just smart enough to take advantage of this opportunity. For the doubters in the room, the pitch usually suggests that they lack vision, and that they just don’t have the business sense that the people who are lapping it up do. Sometimes, this is enough, but sometimes the indoctrination continues. The multi level marketers tell people that if their friends and family are unsupportive of this new business venture, then they’re maybe they’re really not as close to you as you thought. They often mix religious messages into their marketing programs, and they know how to spot the weak link. In reality, multi level marketing programs have a long history of not only being detrimental to a person’s financial well being, but they also have a history of decimating their personal life and relationships as well. For all of these reasons, you must approach membership in a multi level marketing group with extreme caution. There are of course reputable groups out there, but you have to do your homework to make sure you don’t get caught up in a bad one. The repercussions for you could be serious and long lasting. Hi John, Great stuff above! Most folks think that MLM's are in fact bad and cult like. I read an interesting article the other day that I posted on my site by Robert Kiyosaki. I would normally cut and paste it but it is pretty lengthy. Let me know what you think! Robert Kiyosaki Article My Best, Brian |

Hope they're not a cult! I have been in business for many years as a product designer, but recently joined an MLM end of last year. It as been growing steadily, but you are correct when you say some MLMers are cult like. Peoples reactions vary also. In fact, when I announced to one friend (that is not able to buy the service of this MLM and was not sharing info with her so she cold get involved..she's an RN that lives in PA where the service is not available, and she is not business minded in the least) that I was joining one, she was HORRIFIED! She didn't think it was 'me' at all. She sees anyone in MLM as slick, robotic, and sleazy. She knows me better than that so it was a bit of a disconnect from her perspective. Perhaps more people that break this mold joining MLMs will alter public opinion. Of course, I have known her for many years and she has NO business experience. I didn't want to awaken her to the fact that hospital structure is extremely pyramid-like (staff RN's being about in the middle), as are most businesses. One thing different about a good MLM is that you are your own entity. You can create your own team within the MLM structure. |

Theo.... great comment on the "team" thing... That's what my "J Team" is all about.. MLM's are a people helping people structure and if you treat it any differently it simply falls apart. IF you have the right offer with the right people and the right structure then MLM can be a great success. In MLM your success is only as good as the success of the people below you right.. so why people don't spend more time in contact and helping the ones below them in their team is beyond me... I have found that most mlm are hard to work, scams, or just cost too much. I recentley found one called Global Domains International. I received a free 83 page ebook that allowed me to accelerate this business. It is very cheap and comes with a 7 day risk free trial so really it is FREE! Check it out: Freedom.ws — Income for Life™ I receieved the ebook from someone else on the internet but anyone who is serious and signs up, I will send it to you free, with no obligation before the seven day trial period ends. This way you have the chance to use the techniques before you even pay a penny. Don Brown donbrown@internetmoneysolutions.ws Freedom.ws — Income for Life™ |

If someone wants to get into a mlm, they need to be asking and answering questions about what they want before choosing a mlm business. Your expectations is what will make you or break you in any product you are trying to sell. Do you want to make lots of money as fast as possible? If yes for most people that means an expensive product or service that will sell to less than 20% of people out there. Or would you rather sell a product or service that most people can use and is affordable? You will make money, you will have a product that 80% or more people can use. Once you know what you want find a mlm that will give you what you want. Do you want a product that is unique? Do you want something unlike what competitors have? You maybe laughing right now but people get into mlms everyday not knowing what they want. When they fail a lot of times they blame it on the scam mlm they joined. If you manage you expectations you will find success much faster. I manage expectations everyday for my business. Once you start doing this it will also help you sell your product with success. When Im telling someone about my product I manage expectations, I don't leave them with any room to start guessing. They know exactly what they are getting. They know exactly what it does and what makes it unique. When Im done they know they are getting a unique product you can't find anywhere else. So if you don't do anything else start managing yourself and your business accordingly. Believe me it works, it's created millionaires. I, too, hae been a victim of the MLM speak. I really hate it when friends look at me like they pity me because I have a home based business. I soon found out that most of the people who did well were ones that had been in others and make it a business of bringing everyone in to the new one. I have fallen for this thinking those "in the know" knew how to succeed and would help me - I always failed. I am so grateful that I found a business where I can come in for nothing and make money without bringing people in.
