Those are all top level domains! meaning they can be accessed from anywhere in the world. They do have meaning like .gov means goverment don't what those stand for. have to add this .ws (web site) is also a top level domain. |

I dont think any particular TLD is more professional than others except from ones like .me.uk etc. I would normally class a URL with .net as a website that offers a free online service to users and .co.uk and .com as a website that offers products/services to sell. P.S - Dont ask me where i got the .net online service thought from, i just truely believe in it lol Regards Impulse

i think .us is more proffessional. But prefer to use the .com as it is more flexible feeling. |

I rather prefer .com or .net than .us. But here's the info about what they stand for: .com commercial .net network .org organization |

It also completely depends on your key demographic. I.E if you're targeting a worldwide audience, then you really need to go for a .com/.net/.org TLD. Whereas if you're targeting a specific country, you're much better off going with that countries own geographic TLD - e.g. .us, .co.uk, .com.au, etc. Personally, when it comes to the worldwide TLD's, .com wins out every time - primarily for the fact that it is the most well known TLD, and your general internet users are much more likely to type a URL with a .com, even if its a .net if they're not already familiar with the ste. |

I agree with Rob. I like .com simply because it's the most used and people seem to be pre-programmed to type in .com. ImageShack is a .us and almost everytime I go there I type .com without even thinking about it. ImageShack is getting more than 200 million page views according to Alexa, so it doesn't seem to be hurting them, but if I were the owner of imageshack.com you'd better believe I'd be getting an online image hosting site up to catch all of those visitors who accidentally type it wrong. I work with a lot of non-profits who want .org addresses to signify that they are not a .com (commercial) entity. I usually recommend a .com in addition that points to the .org domain. I think it really begins to matter if you're getting a lot of word of mouth traffic as opposed to text links from online sources. |
