Today more and more people are opting to work at home as it proves to be very advantageous and convenient to them. Along with its advantages, there are some disadvantages to working from home.

The advantages of working from home lies in the fact that time and money is saved without having to commute to the place of work. Neither is there any stress of traffic, overcrowded public transport and train delays. When you work from home, you have the benefit of freedom with no one telling you how your work is done and where you have gone wrong. You also get to set your own deadlines when you work at home.

When working from home, there is no uniform to wear or formal shirts and suits in the hottest days of the year. You have the liberty of working in your shorts if required! You enjoy lots of tax benefits with a work at home job as you can merge your office expenses with home expenses. And most important, when working from home, you get to spend more time with your family. You will be there at the formative years of your children and enjoy the pleasures of watching them grow up.

There are some disadvantages to working from home, which stem from not having any fixed time table or schedule to follow. Without self discipline and motivation, you may end up without any work done. Make it a point to keep your work place neat otherwise while working from home, you will never know when your office turns into a mountain of papers waiting to be filed.

Some people tend to face loneliness when working from home. Not much of contact with people will be established with a work at home job which may make you into a loner. There are some people who instead of relaxing with a work at home job tend to get so obsessed with the work that they tend to work from dawn to dusk, without taking breaks in between and even misses out in the essentials of life like eating and visiting the bathroom!

So it can be said that work at home is basically advantageous only if you work at home with a commitment. Set a routine, and follow it. Have a filing system ready if you have filing to do and set your office hours just like you were going to a normal job. This way you get more work done, and also not be lazy and end up not doing anything at all. And don’t forget to maintain contact with people as you wouldn’t want to end up a loner working from home!
