Website Expansion Suggestions/Feedback
Hi everyone,
My name is Stan German and I'm currently a sophomore in college. I recently launched a free social-networking website, myBigz (Link in signature), which is meant to help small businesses, home businesses and creative professionals connect with prospective clients and build a portfolio. I've been trying to get the word out about the site, but I haven't gotten much farther than my hometown. I was hoping I could get some feedback and suggestions as to how I can improve and expand the site.
I submitted a press release online a little over a week ago which explains all the features and the concept behind the site. You can follow the link in my signature for more info.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Website Expansion Suggestions/Feedback
Thanks Fendi!
While I was home, I actually drove around from business to business. I managed to get a few sign ups that way. There will also be an article published in one of the local papers, but I'd like something with a little more reach. I've tried emailing small business and home business bloggers as well as some major publications, but I haven't received many replies. Since I'm at school in New York City right now, I'll probably go door to door in the hopes of recruiting more businesses. It's been difficult trying to get people's attention.

Hi mybigz,
I would suggest you do more participation in forums and web 2.0 sites like myspace.com and squidoo.
Also give some incentive for people to signup for accounts in your site by giving some mini tips on business building.
There are a whole lot of online marketers and small businesses that would love some traffic to their sites..
If you could provide some tips on how your site could do that, it will make a difference.
Not all offline business realize or understand Online marketing concepts.
Hence, I would spend more time promoting your site online as the people online already understand the potential and power.
It is not easy to change mindset.
Hope that helps.

Great input Allen.
I think generally, marketing online is all about traffic isn't it?

Thanks Allen,
I don't know if you had a chance to visit the site but I have a list of the site benefits right in the middle of the homepage, is that what you're talking about?
I've also been trying to get members to spread the word through web 2.0 sites like you mentioned. Every page on the site has a referral toolbar where you can share each page on social media apps like Stumbleupon and Digg.

Thanks Fendi!
That would be great! I've been meaning to dive into the business blogosphere, but with school, the site and midterms coming up, it's been a bit difficult to the find the time. Hopefully, I can get to it soon.

Btw, when I squeeze some time off my current projects,
I will be joining your community. You need all the support
you can get.

Re: Website Expansion Suggestions/Feedback
These are all great ideas. I've personally found that off-line marketing of a site is not as effective as online because the individuals you find online are more apt to use a computer and online resources. I promote my business offline but have few signups. Good luck with your concept. It sounds like a great idea!
