Default How to find a niche?

I keep hearing it everywhere: "Find a niche, fill the void and you'll make money". I've already started a few blogs about things that I'm passionate about, but they aren't huge money makers. I've gained a little experience so far, and think I'm ready to start researching a niche that I know nothing about. The problem is that I don't know how to go about finding one in the first place.

I don't expect anyone to rattle off a list of topics to me, but how do you go about finding new niches?

I just recently started getting domains in different niches. I look for what seems to be the most popular at the current time. In time, it will generate traffic and you will find it of a pleasant value. Research is the key to producing content in a particular niche.

I've read somewhere that you can start by using Amazon and trying to see what everybody wants to buy there. For example, if tennis togs are currently on demand, then why not blog about tennis stars.

What are you passionate about? You already have a niche if you are passionate about something. You just need to use that passion to make money.

What is it that makes you passionate about the subject? Is there a way to use your blog or make a website and start being a PPC middle man? For example find a high priced keyword like student loans, and make a blog or website about college life. You will have less competition on Google for it. You get even more specific like college life in Chicago to have even less competition and you can make good AdSense money because ads will most likely be about student loans. Change up the content to get the right ads popping up on your site.

Just a thought...

So if looking for Adsense profits, find a high paying keyword and just keep narrowing it down? Hmm... not a bad idea, I'll have to brainstorm a little more. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hey, that thought worth's some money, if I can only get a fix on my passions. I've been googling around for years but how do you check if a certain keyword is "high-priced", as you say. Could use a a bit of help...

Thanks.

You can use Overture or Wordtracker and look up keywords like "debt consolidation" and look for the ones that are the most searched for. Any keyword tool should work. If there are a high number of searches for the keyword chances are that they high priced keywords.

If you want to really check it out go to Google adwords and find out how much you will have to pay to be #1. If you start a site you will have to use adwords or another PPC to get traffic right away.

Thanks. So that's how pros search for keywords. I was thinking about google's stats on global seraches. Like for "SEX", it came up a lot from seracehs in Pakistan and Iran. Albeit, it's propbaly a bad idea to sell sex-oriented products in those countries.

I know what you mean but my problem is that I have lots of passion or niches but I do not know where to start. I want to have my passions as a hobby business but it is hard to earn money from it. I am an introvert and not a socialized person. What is your best advice?

Well, based on Heidi's advice, start researching your passions.

For example, maybe you like video games. That's a very broad topic, so open up notepad and start brainstorming "sub-niches". Break it down into smaller ideas, like specific video games, various consoles, accessories, different gaming companies, etc....

Then once you're done, go to Overture and see how many searches are being performed on each of your "sub-niches". The one that has the highest number of monthly searches has a larger demand. Then you can make a blog or website about your popular keyword, fill it with content and place some ads on the site (or sell other products with affiliate links) and start making money!
