Is A Degree Necessary?
I have ran across this many times when talking among friends. Some think that a degree is required to gain the knowledge to run their own business. Personally, I don’t have a degree and don’t find a requirement for it as long as I maintain a good reputation and work portfolio. Don’t get me wrong, a degree can help some in different ways. Do you think a degree is the first step in owning a home business?

Nope. Not at all. I know many people who have had no such thing and they have had home businesses, as well as out-of-home businesses that have prospered very very well. In fact, a family member of mine breeds dogs as her out of the home business and is making probably close to $8k a month. Not too shabby for never having a degree.

Exactly, it all boils down to motivation and how you go about getting things done. Even in the music industry there are very popular celebrities without a high school diploma. You get back just as much as you put in. The goal is getting out there and making the money flow in, patience is truly the key in anything though. Good thing yet to happen overnight, wish they did but don't ever see it happening in today's world.

Degrees are over-rated in my books. Many people who have online jobs or even small businesses can succeed without any diploma or university qualifications.
It all boils down to motivation as explained above, trying out new ventures, learning from the mistakes and recitfying them. Classic examples include shoemoney who made $100,000 USD a month from his online ventures and his day job was working at some laundry place or something I cant remember the specifics but you get the point.

i heard of that shoemoney guy, he is a trip with some wild ideas!
I am glad to see the comments, I have no degree in anything, and it scares me off most of the time. Thinking I am not good enough and tuff. But getting my mind better!

No way! I have run a successful business and I don't have a university or college degree. My brother is a very successful businessman, and he didn't even graduate from high school! He's worked very hard, and has just tried to learn what he could about business in general.

One of the really good things about working on the net is that no one knows who you really are at the other side. A degree or no degree if you are good - your clients do not care. With no one to one interaction on the Net, it honestly does not matter as to how qualified you are.

While a degree helps in some fields, like say would you go to a doctor without a degree, life experience and hard work are what is important to qualify you in other fileds. I think it is all about whatever kind of business you want to own and what is appropriate there.

Consider a degree a fundamental learning opportunity. Real life experience will deffinately help you along but without a degree you are coing from behind and limiting your career choices and opportunities. Sure some people do quite well without them, but statistics show that those with a degree do better than those without.

A big no. I earned my degree in a reputable school and I also have a license for my profession but I ended up managing my own business and in the area that is a far cry from my profession. To sum up, I didn't have any use of the degree I have in running my business.
