Default Business Website

One of the quickest ways to get recognition as a business is to have a website! There are websites for anything you can think of these days, so you certainly don't want to be left in the dust. However, one thing a lot of people don't think about is making sure their website is universally accessible. Is your website viewable from all browsers? All operating systems? Can colorblind people, or even fully blind people with text-to-speech readers, navigate your site with ease? Are your links in obscure places or hard to find? Take all these things into consideration when you design your site.

These are some good suggestions srrh. I think some businesses overlook the importance of a fully accessible website.

I also recommend that anyone building such a website (or any website really) run the page through the w3c markup validation service. This will help make sure your site's html and xhtml maintains the proper w3c standards.

Good ideas. I am sure a lot of us don't think about these issues. I think it is best to ask a few people to test out your site and then give you feedback. When you design your own website it will appear easy to navigate yourself, but not to everyone.

Yes I agree with bustour here on building a site through the w3c markup validation service. It ensures accessibility to a whole range of users. There is an online service called silktide.com if I can remember correctly. It basically analyses your website for the color, content, accessibility and checks your targeted keywords and everything and ranks it out of a scale of 10 and tells you where you can improve. It is very handy.
