Default Spend money to make money

Hi everybody, most of you are probably aware of the cliché you must always spend money to make money. It probably depends on what type of home business you are running. Well in my case I am a webmaster generally you don’t have to spend money, but it does help ie to create website templates, directory submissions, article submissions, seo work etc. I’m just asking around if you have spent money, to make money, how much have you spent, and what is the business you are running.
Cheers

All in all on the websites I have now, I have probably spent... MAYBE $100. I should probably keep track of the money I spend vs. the money that I get. Haha.

I've bought a few different things such as links, hosting, the domains (I own a lot of em, contact me if you wanna buy some good ones) a couple of graphics and I can't really recall much else.

I'm considering purchasing some directory submission here in the next few days though.

I have spent very little money on my websites as I like to do the work myself. If there is a job I don't understand very well, I'll take the time to learn it.

Oftentimes I feel that this might be detrimental to my site however as I should
be spending my time doing what I do well and let others work on the hard stuff.
I've spent too many hours struggling through PHP code trying to figure things out when a programmer could have probably whipped it out in a few minutes.

Perhaps the saying is right though. Maybe to take my sites to the next level I should be willing to spend some more money.

Thanks for your input guys. Yes I agree with you both that if you know the job very well you should not spend money on it as you can do it yourself. But as bustour has said if there is a job that you don’t understand very well, I usually don’t have the time to learn it and I really cannot be bothered :P. So I guess that’s where I spend my money on things that I cant be bothered to do and which may prove tasks to be difficult.

Of course you are going to have overhead in any business but you have to try to stretch out your dollar. I spend as little as possible to advertise my sites.

There are many ways indeed... but the internet has allowed the common people to start one without spending a bomb...

Actually if you start to calculate the expenses of operating an online business, the internet is an expense in itself. However, since most people now have computers and internet, we don't normally count it when adding expenses. When I started doing business online, I looked for the least expensive or free versions of everything that I needed, and when I became more successful, then I felt that I had the option to try more expensive measures that may work better.
