I am looking for feedback on the best place to buy your domain name. I am also looking for a place that has the best software for helping you build your own website. I am sure a lot of you have already been through this and can provide me a lot of feedback on what you have been through. What you would do differently or the same. Thanks in advance.

I usually buy my domains at godaddy.com, but I host my sites elsewhere, usually on asmallorange.com. As for the software to help you with your site, most hosts have some pretty good tools to help you get started. Look for someone who offers fantastico. It's an add-on to cpanel and has a bunch of web applications. |

I agree, GoDaddy.com is THE place to get your domains at. They have a great prices, not to mention a whole lot of wonderful features. Plus, if you can find some, coupon codes are where it's at! What I like to do at the time of purchase (for a domain name) is get the Private Registration. It's only a couple bucks more, but this way people are not going to have your phone number and address when they do a WHOIS search on your domain. |

That's a good point about the private registration. In fact, if you buy three domains at Godaddy you get the first year of private registration free. Yesterday, using the coupon code OYH3 is was able to get my domains for 6.95 at Godaddy. Another way to get the 6.95 domain, at least at the time of writing this, is to click on the Google Adsense ad for GoDaddy when you search on "domain names". |

Thanks for the code bustour. I might actually use it to purchase a domain, I was using namecheap.com they had it for 7.95 with a coupon code which supported paypal payments. I will check this godaddy and see if they accept paypal, but my choice with namecheap is that they offer a free whois guard protection.

I have worked with goddady and they are quite good. They give you weekly updates on your name status if you want. Their rates are reasonable and they have a good support system. Try them if you are just starting out.

Godaddy and Namecheap are the best in the world now. Namecheap accept un-verified paypal payment also which godaddy requires verified one. If you want to buy cheaper than this, go for netfirms. |

Thanks everyone for all of your input. I am trying to do all this myself, so it is wonderful that there is a place like this where we can all help each other out. Keep the tips coming.

I just want to throw my hat in the ring with another recommendation of GoDaddy. I've never had any problems with them, nor has anyone else I know, and they definitely have the lowest prices available. Count up the votes! GoDaddy wins by a landslide! |
