Default Starting a home business advice

What to think about when looking for a work from home business/job/career

(1) Make sure that it is something that intrests you very much. The worst thing you can do is put your money into something that you know very little about because when the novelty weres off and its time to graft, you need to be intrested in your work. Once the intrest goes, so does the motivation and there is nothing worse than being stuck working from home doing a job that you hate, even if it does bring in the money. It will only be a matter of time until you let things slip like taking days off here and there etc

(2) Make sure that the business as has got potential to grow. Try to avoid one off sells like selling something that lasts for years like a Sofa for example. (pritty bad example but my mind as gone blank ) Unlike selling something that customers will keep coming back for in weeks, months etc like a hair cut for example. (Everyone needs a hair cut time and time again )

(3) Make sure it has got one of 2 things going for it: (1) Good profit margin if sales per week/month will be quite low. or (2) Good turnover of sales per week/month if profit margin will be quite low. If you can come across the ultimate prize of (3) Profit margin high and sales per week/month high, then you are on to a winner.

(4) Always get references and speak to other people who are already doing the job before spending any money on any work from home scheme.

more to follow in coming weeks......

I would add to that, just this:

If you decide to take your business into the Internet Marketing game, make sure you read, read, read. You need to learn about how to market effectively and not just spin your wheels.

So, if you bought the eBook on starting a Internet biz read it. Many of us don't read the material we have before we search out another source.

Good luck to all....and never give up.

You also have to remember starting a business has alot of legal aspects to it as well. I want to remind everyone especially in the USA to be sure to file the proper taxes and get your state liscences if you need them. Alot of people go into a home business thinking they are free and clear of these things because " hey, it's a home business" well that is the wrong way to think. If you live in the USA, you need to file taxes on all earned income.

That's a great point. If you're in the US and want to resell items usually you need a federal tax ID or EIN and a state tax ID to purchase wholesale. With affiliate programs most require your SSN or EIN so you can get your 1099 at the end of the year.

WOW Heidi,

Were did you pull all that from: "federal tax ID or EIN and a state tax ID, your SSN or EIN so you can get your 1099 at the end of the year."

I thought you was from the UK?

Oh nearly forgot your bananas!!:

Thanks Heidi, More advice is research, research and more research. Make sure you know everything about the industry you will have your business based on, all the legalities of it and anything else there is to know. In the end you will save yourself time and money.
It is also good to have legal council on retainer.
