Default Can you balance your checkbook?

Is it just me or is accounting one of the most boring and hardest tasks one has to do! This is one area of my home business I hate, balancing the books. I just suck at it and I really can't apply myself! I don't know how people do this for a living!

Definitely agreed here. I can't see how people do this for a living either. I practically fall asleep every time I do it.

Usualy a pot of coffee and strapping myself to the chair can get me through this tedious task

Just not any fun at all... when I get some more money coming in, I am going to get an accountant for sure!

Accounting is the hardest task, I must agree. It's because you have to manage every single penny that you had used in your business then you have to calculate, recheck and again recheck in order to create a perfect cashbook.

It's more easier to do with MSN money though

Same here. I am not good in accounting at all. I wonder what cpa's do everyday...Do they enjoy their jobs as public accountants? It is like the most boring job ever! I hate this part of having a business, but there's no escaping this task though.

It is boring, but if you do a little of it everyday - it will not be so hard. There are good softwares that help you in doing this. In India one of the most popular and probably the best value for money is Tally. I have used it regularly - my accountant also uses it - so we are both happy with it.

It is tedious, that's for sure. I hate math, but, since I am dealing with it a lot more now than before I have became accustomed to it. I suppose it's not truly that bad, I know of a lot more things that are worse than dealing with numbers. Although, sometimes I do resort to software to take the needed shortcuts. I don't know what I would do if they never invented the calculator though!

I don't even have a business yet and find just managing my own personal funds is a chore! Do you guys use any specific programs on the computer for balancing your accounts and/or checkbooks, or do you just do it manually? I'm curious. I need something to make this a little bit easier for me, cause I'm tired of overdraft fees.

HAHA! This is a great thread! I remember in school in junior high, they tried to teach me about balancing a check book. I remember thinking what the hell is wrong with this teacher? Like are we that dumb we don't know how much money we have in the bank.

I learned the lesson later. Trust me. And yes, I do know how to keep pretty good track of my banking. No more of those expensive lessons for me!
