Default Collections

Does anyone here have any experience with collections? I have regular past due accounts that I have given up on having a chance to collect on my own. Is there a company or something that someone can recommend?

Tapping collection services maybe costly because it involves legal fees. If the collectible amount is not significantly big, you may end up in the losing end for paying the services of collection providers. You can issue demand letters. If these are ignored, you can use these documents for filing the necessary charges.

Will filing charges work in getting the people to pay... or more importantly do they pay? If they don't pay what happens, they go to jail?

Seems a little extreme for a collections method.

Definitely if they get a demand letter and they fail to comply with the demand letter, it could be a ground for you to file a case. There is a due process involved . Undertaking such process will put yourself in a good position if you pursue the case later. If they are found guilty later, sanctions depend on the laws governing debts in your country.

OK so I guess I am going to go and get some people put into jail...

We'll I guess it can't hurt to try this way but I am going to explore some collections options first and use this as a last resort but thanks for the suggestion.

Cheers!

One other way is to let them issue you a post dated check. They will indicate on the check their most convenient time you will negotiate the check. What is good about check is that if it bounces, you can use the bounced check in court to run after the payor.

I handle all of my collections. I have very few since I will cut off their services if they don't pay me on time. Then, of course I run into the occasional thieves I end up sending out a DMCA copyright notice out to them and if all else fails, their domain registrar and hosting provider. I have yet to require collection services from an outside party. Seems, my little fingers can do the job quite well. Plus, I'm not pretty when people are being stupid.
