I'm using AVG (the free version), and I have had no problems at all.
I had one of the other, big ones (I think it was Norton) on a work computer a couple of years ago and I didn't like it at all. It was very intrusive into whatever I was doing and seemed to bog my system down. With AVG, everything seems to run along nice and smooth.

I really can't understand what's the big deal about "professional" anti-viruses like Norton and Kapersky, I tried both of them and was more annoyed than relieved. On the other hand, I've relied on free AVG for years, and I didn't get infected for once. I switched to Avast because there was this review about free antiviruses where AVG was found to be weak on spywares or something. Avast is also more hip.

I have recently switched to AVG free because my Norton Antivirus have expired. So far I find AVG to be working well though I get spywares sometimes that's why I've installed spyware removers in my computer. Using both softwares solves the problem.

McAfee is the best. I have norton antivirus security 2007.I have no problem with it. It can kill many new viruses as well. But, it slows down your computer a little bit.

I'm not blessed with enough money to buy a professional antivirus so I just use the free ones. Fortunately, there are a lot of dependable ones out there. I'm using AVG and I love its simplicity and automatic updates.

I have heard that norton and AVG can not kill trojans. Is it true? I got trojan virus a few days back. Then I had to renew my norton antivirus subscription and now there is no viruses in my computer. Atleast scanning report is showing that. I am afraid that is it possible that even now my computer has trojans.
