Do we have moderators here? I think there is the necessity to have one or two or depending how the traffic of discussion flows. We need them to provide direction and also to regulate flaming in the forum.

We're here. I just deleted a bunch of SPAM. We don't get that much of it, but it is a annoying nonetheless.

Just curious... I see a lot of forums that have a lot of spammy posts and when the moderators are asked, "how come you don't delete the posts" they reply because someone has already replied to the post. Is that the case, that you can't delete a post once someone has replied?

I moved the one that monetary replied to. Usually I catch them before someone responds. I can edit out the links in those posts. We are lucky here that we don't have a ton of spam.

What all does a moderator do ? I have been asked by another forum to moderate one of their sub sections - and I am not too sure about the kind of duties it entails. Are you allowed to edit texts - or just delete them ?

There is a set of rules formulated by any forum. One main task of the moderator is to ensure that such rules are duly complied by forum members. If there are violations, the moderator concerned should initiate the necessary warning or impose whatever sanctions. Definitely moderators can edit, move text in their proper folder and to a certain extent delete undesirable posts.

I think THB is great community and good luck for us that we have not much spamms here. Moderators have tough job to maintian board's policy and keep checking rules too. We know if someone give replay at spam than Mod. can delete it. But he onle can move it to spam folder.

Is there any monetary compensation for being a moderator or is it - just a labour of love. I am not sure whether to accept the offer to be a moderator for free, since I feel it will take up a lot of time. But then I am not too sure as to how much money to ask .
Any suggestions would be welcome.

The moderators and administrator of this forum are always here hobnobbing with us users. There's heidi, paul, and dactyl. I think that's what make this a great forum. In some forums, you've been there for a month but you don't see any moderator post.
