Default Why do companies ask for upfront payment ?

I have searched various websites for an online job, but have failed to understand why do these websites require upfront payment. If they want a job to be done for which they will pay money, why do they require us to pay some money initially. Various websites claim that it is for postal charges, then why can’t they cut it from our salary. For guidance no post is necessary it can be done through email.
These reasons are just excuses. The truth is that these websites does not provide us jobs. They are just a mediators b/w us and job providers. Since, job providers pay money directly to us, the mediators want a share in the pie. So we have to search for them who provide jobs directly to us.

Hi Jayadev
I tend to agree with your summing up of these so called work from home companies.
I personaly would never pay for a "start" im with you if you want to employ me fair enough but im out to make money not pay you for the privilage.
But it was the same before the internet I remember my mother working from home and getting the same problems.
I have to say though I never thought that it was because they were middle men (good spot!)

Thanks
Mark

Alright, you are in a tough situation. In some cases, it probably is used for postage, but if I was an employer, I would always cover all of the fees required to hire a new employee. I have experienced something along the lines of this at a county job that I applied for. I had to pay $40 for a fingerprinting. I was compensated for the money by putting it down on my time sheet that I worked extra hours, but it's the point. Now, at the time it was my first job, and I was only 15. You think the government would waive fees for students, but that’s the US government for you.

I think, companies that demand upfront fees are all scams. They generally take money from us for giving jobs and after that you never find any sign of them. Some of them even delete their websites after some days. So,stay away from them

The only one making any money where an upfront fee is required is the owner of the site. Realistically you have a million others out there wit the same aspirations that are already pecking away placing free ad's all day long, etc and not making one single cent.

I have been the victim of one of these "upfront companies" I paid, got the URL of a site back - which only gave me information about other sites. The support sytems dried up - and there was no response from them about any queries of mine.
So the moral of the story - do not pay - there are lots of others who will share the same info for free.

Cool

The true mean of making money from home is for us ( the users of the internet ) to provide any type of work such as typing, posting to e-mails, promoting websites and really get paid for it. No up-front payment is required from us actually.

I agree with most of you about the risk of providing up front payment and that it is very possible that you can get burned but unfortunately this is a risk in any business. So many companies today require prepayment for you purchase and it is because they want to protect against the same thing you are worried about!

In business there are risks, you just have to figure out how to properly manage and reduce the risk.

if it is a job, then you should never have to pay, but if you want to own your business then yes you need upfront $ in most cases. But I would always check them out real good before giving them a dime.

That's because they are only after your money and have nothing to give in return. That's one characteristic of a scam site we have to look out for. I bet they don't even have a physical location. Most legal sites also have offices where you can contact them directly.
